Claviere - Day 2 - First day on the snow

Being on a school trip has the obvious responsibilities. Getting the kids up and ready in plenty of time for the start of the day, meals etc and I can't tell you how impressed I have been so far with the way our students have got up and followed our instructions without any grumbling and have got on.

Breakfast is again a lovely spread, our hotel has a real focus on ensuring the food here is delicious.
Routines seem to be something our students can manage but the remembering of everything they need during the day may not be as finely tuned! Gloves, who needs gloves whilst skiing!! This is where having the spares kit saves the removal of boots etc to go back to the room saves so much time.

Ski Time
We losely devided the team into the abilities that they told us that they had and then split into 3 groups and take on the mountain. Well for 2 of the groups anyway! The beginners started on the starter slope to get started skiing. The pistes were prepped for the morning lovely smooth although rather hard. 

The morning went largely without incident and the students were adjusted into the correct groups and the skiing was delightful. The odd pair of goggles or ski poles falling off the lift is fairly par for the course so a couple of slight detours to rescue or replace later and everyone was largely skiing for the morning.
Back to the hotel for another refuel at Lunch ready to take on the slushy conditions for the afternoon.

The afternoon snow was warm and slushy and the conditions got softer and softer throughout the afternoon. The final run down at 4 was fairly difficult. The final section, the blue, was so soft and I ended up having my first fall of the day. Soft landing and straight back up but really soft and easy to get caught in a rut and get spun out.

The afternoon is a great slowing of pace where we can relax and shower before another culinary delight and so an abundance of food to refuel for the next day.

The evening's activity was an impromptu karaoke session, yes you know I love it too, and then an early bed time. Both the kids and adults were completely done in.

The weather has been really sunny which is lovely to ski in and warm but not so great for the snow!
Our hotel's hospitality has been incredible, the staff and food has been better than we could have imagined and I would absolutely come back here again.

So quick call back home, quick duo lingo lesson, to keep up with my Polish and then early night for me.

After an uncomfortable night sleep in a rock hard bed and lots of irregular noises I got up for breakfast. Hotel breakfasts are always interesting as you're never quite sure what you'll get. Large hotels always have a big selection of regular continental food as well as a more cooked English breakfast option. This hotel was definitely not catering for the full English and a fairly simple continental breakfast was for me, with an English breakfast team con latte (with milk)! Quick change into ski gear and then the short walk from the hotel to the main planibel area to get skis etc and hit the slopes. Claviere - Day 7 - Final day on the Mountain

Today I am breaking with my usual tradition of writing my blog in the mornings. Getting up at 5:30 am to start the journey home wouldn't really be the best time to write so I have written this entry before going to sleep. Possibly not the best plan but I probably wouldn't get this written otherwise and today was quite a day. This morning had a bit of a false start as I had to facilitate a student going home but not until after we started skiing. So once he had gone I got dressed super quick to join the team on the mountain. I had dodged the Shrek hat earlier in the week but alas it was definitely my turn after my spectacular tumbles yesterday.  The view this morning was of a foggy mountain and I had reservations about what the visibility would be like. Claviere - day 1

September came around and I started a new adventure. One I never really thought would happen but did. A new school with a hugely different feel but a place where I have come to love. So these are the adventures that I have been on, hopefully inspiring kids or at least giving them the opportunity to see and do things. My first giant step was to take on running a ski trip. Claviere Easter 2024 and our first day turned out to be an adventure in itself. Travel days are always exciting and long. You never really expect to have much more than travel, orientation and the start of the plan. So I took 16 students with 3 staff, sensible numbers in my opinion, off to the airport at the crack of dawn! 03:30 wake up was unpleasant to say the least and arrived at school ready for a 05:00 departure.
